FTF Transfers Pressing Instructions

FTF Transfers Pressing Instructions

For best results, use a commercial heat press with firm, even pressure. Settings may vary slightly based on your garment, heat press, and fabric blend, so we recommend testing before full production.

Standard Pressing Steps

  1. Pre-press the garment
Press the blank garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
  2. Position the transfer
Place your FTF Transfer print on the garment with the design facing up and the film on top.
  3. Press with firm pressure
Use medium-to-heavy pressure. The press should close firmly and evenly across the full design.
  4. Peel immediately after pressing
Peel the film slowly and smoothly from one corner while the transfer is still hot.
  5. Finish with a second press
Cover the design with parchment paper, kraft paper, or a finishing sheet and press again for 5–8 seconds. This helps lock the print into the fabric and gives the design a softer finish.

Recommended Starting Settings

Fabric Type Temperature Time
Polyester 275°F 10 seconds
Tri-Blend 275°F 10 seconds
50/50 Cotton-Poly 300°F 12 seconds
100% Cotton 325°F 10–15 seconds
Denim 330°F 15 seconds
Nylon 260°F 8–10 seconds
Performance / Athletic Fabric 270°F 8–10 seconds

Quick Troubleshooting

Transfer is not sticking:
Increase pressure first. Most adhesion issues come from not enough pressure. If pressure is correct, check your heat and time.

Edges or small details are lifting:
Re-press the area with firm pressure. For small details, apply focused pressure directly over the lifting area.

Design looks too shiny:
Do a second press with parchment paper or a finishing sheet to reduce shine and improve the feel.

Fabric is scorching or shrinking:
Lower the temperature and shorten the press time. This is especially important for polyester, nylon, and performance fabrics.

Colors or adhesion seem inconsistent:
Check your heat press temperature with a temperature gun. Some presses read hotter or cooler than the displayed temperature.

Using a Home Iron or Small Craft Press

A commercial heat press is strongly recommended for consistent results. If using a small craft press or home iron, results may vary.

Use firm pressure, work in small sections, and overlap each section slightly. Do not use steam. You may need multiple passes to fully apply the transfer.

Important Notes

Always test before running a full order. Different garments, fabric coatings, seams, and heat presses can affect the final result.

FTF Transfers is not responsible for application errors caused by incorrect temperature, pressure, time, peeling, or garment compatibility.
